Dear Members of the CRTC-OLMC Discussion Group,
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (Commission) staff wishes to inform you that the Commission is in receipt of an application by Joel Lagacé on behalf of a non-profit corporation to be incorporated, for a broadcasting licence to operate an English-language developmental community FM radio station in Cochrane, Ontario. The proposed station would broadcast in an official language minority community (OLMC).
The applicant proposes to broadcast 126 hours of local programming per broadcast week, of which 10 hours would be allocated to local news, 3 hours and 45 minutes to regional news and 1 hour and 45 minutes to international news. The applicant also proposes to devote a maximum of 19 hours or 15% of the programming to French-language programming.
Staff notes that this application could play a role in enhancing the vitality of the francophone minority community in Cochrane, Ontario and support its development while promoting the French language.
As members of the CRTC-OLMC Discussion Group, we invite you to take note of this application and comment if you deem appropriate.
