Subject: Part 1 application 2024-0069-6 – Response to the applicant’s procedural request and new deadline for comments
Dear John Carlo Mastrangelo and Kate Southwell,
On 7 March 2024, the Commission posted application 2024-0069-6 for comment on the Commission’s Open Part 1 Applications page. On that page, consistent with its general practices and procedures for Part 1 applications, the Commission specified that comments would be accepted until 8 April 2024.
On 4 April 2024, the applicant filed a procedural request asking for an extension of the comment deadline to 22 April 2024. The applicant stated that he only learned that the application had been posted on 2 April 2024 (in response to an inquiry regarding the status of the application), that several interested persons may wish to intervene, and that he had not been able to advise them in a timely fashion of the 8 April 2024 intervention deadline.
The applicant submitted that the Commission should, pursuant to section 7 of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission Rules of Practice and Procedure, extend the intervention deadline by two weeks in order to provide these interested persons time to comment and ensure that the Commission will be able to base its determinations on a complete record.
Given the rationale provided by the applicant and the impending closure of the intervention period, Commission staff grants an extension of the deadline for interveners to file comments to 22 April 2024. The reply period for the applicant will close on 2 May 2024.
