Subject: Part 1 application requesting that the Commission order Québecor Inc. and Groupe TVA Inc. (TVA) to continue to comply with its local programming and local reflection requirements imposed on its station CFCM-DT Quebec, including its requirement to broadcast two newscasts on weekends (application 2023-0382-4)

On 20 June 2023, the Commission received a letter from TVA in response to the letter from Commission staff dated 16 June 2023. In its response, TVA indicates that it is suspending its decision to withdraw the weekend newscasts broadcast on TVA Quebec, until the Commission has rendered a decision on application 2023-0307-2.

TVA also requests that the Commission withdraw the Part 1 application of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) (2023-0382-4) as TVA considers it to be moot.

Since TVA’s response letter refers to CUPE’s request, staff considers it appropriate to place the letter on the public record of CUPE’s request.

Those wishing to submit an intervention will then be able to comment on the merits of CUPE’s and TVA’s request, with access to a complete and exhaustive public file. This would ultimately allow the Commission to make an informed decision on both applications.

A copy of this letter will be placed in the public record of the proceedings.

Sincerely,

Michael Craig
A/Director, Television
