Re: Broadcasting Notice of Consultation CRTC 2022-252 -Procedural request regarding the application by Nunavut Independent Television Network to receive mandatory distribution as part of the digital basic service for its discretionary service Uvagut TV
On 7 November 2022, Inuit TV Network filed a procedural request in which it requested that the Commission, amongst other things, issue an open call for competing applications for mandatory carriage of a national, Indigenous-language discretionary service for Inuit communities if negotiations fail between interested stakeholders.
Today, the Commission has published Notice of Consultation CRTC 2023-72 announcing that it intends to consider the applications of Nunavut Independent Television Network (Uvagut TV) and Inuit TV Network (Inuit TV) at an appearing public hearing. Both applicants are applying for a broadcasting licence to operate their respective currently exempt service as a licensed national, Inuktut-language discretionary service and mandatory distribution across Canada on the digital basic service. Inuit TV was the only intervenor that indicated as part of its intervention that it intended to submit its own application for the mandatory distribution on the digital basic service of its service Inuit TV.
In light of the above, the Commission staff considers your request to issue a call for competing applications as moot.
Yours sincerely,
