- On 4 April 2023, TELUS Communications Inc. (TCI) filed a letter in which it requested that the Commission extend the deadlines for the submission of interventions and replies in the proceeding initiated by Call for comments – Implementing thousand-block pooling, Telecom Notice of Consultation CRTC 2023-92, 23 March 2023 (Telecom Notice of Consultation 2023-92). TCI requested that the deadline for the submission of interventions be changed from 24 April 2023 to 19 May 2023 and that the deadline for the submission of replies be changed from 9 May 2023 to 31 May 2023.
- TCI submitted that to respond to the questions listed by the Commission in Telecom Notice of Consultation 2023-92, it must conduct a thorough analysis of all its systems associated with call routing or the assignment or use of telephone numbers and set timelines for making the necessary changes. TCI added that it must participate in industry discussions to determine what changes, if any, will need to be made to industry systems such as those that currently support call routing, number assignment, and number portability. TCI argued that the current deadline for interventions does not permit for sufficient time to propose a reliable timeline and that additional time is required.
- Bell Canada; Bell Mobility Inc.; Bragg Communications Incorporated, carrying on business as Eastlink; Quebecor Media Inc., on behalf of Videotron Ltd.; Rogers Communications Canada Inc.; and Saskatchewan Telecommunications filed letters supporting TCI’s request to extend the deadlines for the submission of interventions and replies.
- The Commission considers that extending the deadline for the submission of comments would provide parties and interested persons with sufficient time to effectively submit interventions and replies, and ensure that the Commission has an appropriate record on which to base its upcoming decision, in the proceeding initiated by Telecom Notice of Consultation 2023-92. Accordingly, the Commission hereby revises the deadline for the submission of interventions from 24 April 2023 to 19 May 2023 and the deadline for the submission of replies from 9 May 2023 to 31 May 2023.
