Subject: TELUS Part 1 Application for reclassification of SILECs as ONPs for the purposes of NG9-1-1

The present is in response to a letter (the letter) by the Independent Telecommunications Providers Association (ITPA) on 15 June 2022. 

On 24 May 2022, Therrien Couture Joli-Coeur, L.L.P., counsel for the ITPA, requested that the Commission summarily dismiss an application filed by TELUS Communications Inc. (TELUS).^Footnote1 In response to this request, Commission staff suspended all outstanding timelines associated with TELUS’ application and established a process^Footnote2 to deal with the ITPA’s request whereby TELUS had until 10 June 2022 to answer the ITPA’s request and the ITPA had until 17 June 2022 to reply.

In the letter, the ITPA requests an extension to the deadline to file its reply to 24 June 2022, citing limited internal resources and the need to consult external consultants to effectively respond to the legal arguments contained in previously filed submissions. The IPTA also argues that its reply being the only remaining step relating to the Commission’s consideration of its procedural request, interested parties would not be disadvantaged by a brief extension.

Commission staff acknowledges that the ITPA’s current situation with regard to external resources are outside of its control and that it requires additional time to rectify the situation and prepare its reply. As such, staff hereby extends the deadline by which the ITPA may file its reply to 24 June 2022.
