RE:  Extension Request for Requests for information - Part 1 Application by the Independent Telecommunications Providers Association regarding the development of retail and wholesale NG9-1-1 rates in the geographic areas covered by SILEC exchanges

This is in response to a request dated 11 August 2021 from the Independent Telecommunications Providers Association (ITPA) to extend the filing dates for responses to Commission staff’s requests for information (RFIs) related to the above-mentioned Part 1 application.  On 10 August 2021, Commission staff had request detailed information related to approaches which provide the most reasonable proxy to associate wireless subscribers with the NG9-1-1 network provider most likely responsible for delivering their NG9-1-1 communications to the appropriate Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP).  Responses were to be filed by 23 August 2021 and replies to responses by 30 August 2021.

The ITPA submits that additional time is required due to resource constraints related to: (i) the summer construction period; (ii) responses to various broadband funding programs, and (iii) the summer vacation period. The ITPA further submits that additional time is required to fully respond to the RFIs as well as develop comprehensive replies, taking into account the Labour Day holiday.  As such, the ITPA requests that the timelines be extended to 3 September 2021 for the responses to the RFIs and 14 September 2021 for the replies to responses.

On 12 August 2021, TELUS filed a letter supporting the ITPA’s extension request, noting similar reasons, including summer vacation and other regulatory deadlines.

Given the above-mentioned circumstances, staff considers the extension request to be reasonable and grants the extended deadlines as requested by the ITPA and supported by TELUS.

Sincerely,
