Dear parties,
The Commission is in receipt of a letter from the Government of the Northwest Territories, dated 10 May 2021, in which it expresses concerns with Northwestel’s position, as set out in its reply of 24 March 2021, that the Commission should launch the next phase of the Review of the Commission’s regulatory framework for Northwestel Inc. and the state of telecommunications services in Canada’s North, Telecom Notice of Consultation CRTC 2020-367 (TNC 2020-367) after such time as Starlink’s service has been widely available in northern Canada for six months to a year.
Although TNC 2020-367 does not provide for further comments to the replies that were due 24 March 2021, Commission staff considers it appropriate to accept the Government of Northwest Territories’ additional submission on the record of the proceeding, as it will provide a more fulsome record for the Commission’s consideration.
As such, parties may file any comments strictly limited to the above noted letter from the Government of the Northwest Territories by 28 May 2021.
A copy of this letter will be placed on the public record of this proceeding.
