CKRT-DT Rivière-du-Loup and its transmitters – Licence amendment related to coverage of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

1. The Commission approves the application by CKRT-TV ltée (CKRT-TV) to amend the broadcasting licence for the French-language conventional television programming undertaking CKRT-DT Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec, and its transmitters^{Footnote 1} in order to obtain temporary relief from its condition of licence relating to local programming during the broadcast of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.^{Footnote 2} The Commission did not receive any interventions in regard to this application.
2. The Commission notes that as a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) affiliate, CKRT-TV is required to carry Olympic Games programming when aired by the CBC network. As a result, CKRT-DT’s normal programming will be disrupted during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The licensee therefore requested the same temporary relief approved by the Commission for CBC network stations in Various English- and French-language conventional television stations – Licence amendments related to coverage of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2021-204, 16 June 2021.
3. The Commission is of the view that CKRT-TV’s request is appropriate given its status as a CBC affiliate and the importance of broadcasting the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games to its viewers.
4. To implement the relief from the local programming requirement, the Commission adds the following condition to the broadcasting licence for CKRT-DT and its transmitters:

   From 21 July to 8 August 2021 inclusively, the licensee is relieved of the requirements set out in condition of licence 7 of the appendix to Various conventional television stations – Licence renewals, Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2018-337, 31 August 2018.
