CBV-FM Québec and its transmitter CBV-FM-8 Thetford Mines; CBVE-FM Québec and its transmitter CBMC-FM Thetford Mines – Technical changes

  1. The Commission approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to change the authorized contours of CBV-FM-8 Thetford Mines, Quebec, a rebroadcasting transmitter of the French-language radio programming undertaking CBV-FM Québec by changing the antenna’s radiation pattern from non-directional to directional, increasing the average effective radiated power (ERP) from 240 watts to 1,505 watts (maximum ERP from 240 watts to 1,900 watts) and decreasing the effective height of antenna above average terrain (EHAAT) from 274.8 to 265.6 metres. It would also amend the existing coordinates of the transmitter site and change the class of the transmitter from A to B1. All other technical parameters would remain unchanged.
  2. The Commission also approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to change the authorized contours of CBMC-FM Thetford Mines, Quebec, a rebroadcasting transmitter of the English-language radio programming undertaking CBVE-FM Québec by changing the antenna’s radiation pattern from non-directional to directional, increasing the average ERP from 250 watts to 460 watts (maximum ERP from 250 watts to 580 watts), and increasing the EHAAT from 262 to 265.6 metres. It would also amend the existing coordinates of the transmitter site. All other technical parameters would remain unchanged.
  3. The licensee stated that the requested technical changes would enable its Radio One and ICI Première services to be combined on a single antenna, thereby improving Radio One coverage in the Thetford Mines region.
  4. The Commission did not receive any interventions regarding these applications.
  5. Pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
  6. The licensee must implement the technical changes by no later than 11 February 2022. To request an extension, the licensee must submit a written request to the Commission at least 60 days before that date, using the form available on the Commission’s website.
