CKYY-FM Welland – Administrative renewal

The Commission renews the broadcasting licence for the English-language commercial radio programming undertaking CKYY-FM Welland, Ontario, from 1 September 2020 to 31 August 2021, subject to the same terms and conditions as those in effect under the current licence.
In CIXL-FM Welland and CKYY-FM Welland –Acquisition of assets, Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2020-53, 7 February 2020 (Broadcasting Decision 2020-53), the Commission approved an application by Stingray Radio Inc. (Stingray Radio) for authority to acquire the assets of CKYY-FM. However, the transaction has not yet closed and R.B. Communications Ltd. (RBC) will continue to operate the station until the close of the transaction.
This decision does not dispose of any issues that may arise with respect to the renewal of this licence, including any non-compliance issues.
This renewal does not vary any of the Commission’s determinations in Broadcasting Decision 2020-53. As stated in that decision, Stingray Radio shall notify the Commission of the close of the approved transaction and, upon surrender of the current licence issued to RBC, the Commission will issue a new broadcasting licence to Stingray Radio. The new licence will expire 31 August 2026.
