CHNU-DT Fraser Valley – Technical changes
- The Commission approves the application by ZoomerMedia Limited to change the authorized contours of the television programming undertaking CHNU-DT Fraser Valley, British Columbia, by relocating the transmitter site, changing the channel from 47 to 24, increasing the maximum effective radiated power (ERP) from 13,500 to 35,000 watts and the average ERP from 4,900 to 15,900 watts, and increasing the effective height of antenna above average terrain from 346.3 to 625.6 metres. The Commission did not receive any interventions regarding this application.
- The licensee indicated that since the current transmitter site at McKee Peak is being decommissioned, CHNU-DT must relocate its transmission facilities. It added that the application would allow the station to transition from channel 47 to 24 to comply with the Department of Industry’s (the Department) repurposing initiative of the 600 MHz frequency band.
- Pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
- The licensee must implement the technical changes by no later than 10 January 2021. To request an extension, the licensee must submit a written request to the Commission at least 60 days before that date, using the form available on the Commission’s website.
