CFPR Prince Rupert and its transmitter CBYQ-FM Queen Charlotte – Technical changes

The Commission approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) to change the authorized contours of CBYQ-FM Queen Charlotte, a rebroadcasting transmitter of the radio programming undertaking CFPR Prince Rupert, British Columbia (Radio One), by changing the antenna radiation pattern from directional to non-directional and the transmitter class from B to A, decreasing the average effective radiated power (ERP) from 1,190 to 890 watts (maximum ERP from 4,750 to 890 watts) and increasing the effective height of the antenna above average terrain from -31.5 to -14.09 metres. The Commission did not receive any interventions regarding this application.
The CBC stated that the changes would allow the replacement of an aging transmitter while improving Radio One’s coverage in the area of Queen Charlotte.
Pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
The licensee must implement the technical changes by no later than 12 February 2021. To request an extension, the licensee must submit a written request to the Commission at least 60 days before that date, using the form available on the Commission’s website.
