CBAF-FM-5 Halifax and its transmitter CBAF-FM-9 Yarmouth – Technical changes
- The Commission approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) to change the authorized contours of CBAF-FM-9 Yarmouth, a rebroadcasting transmitter of the French-language radio programming undertaking CBAF-FM-5 Halifax, Nova Scotia (ICI Radio-Canada Première), by decreasing the average effective radiated power (ERP) from 1,180 to 753 watts (maximum ERP from 2,890 to 1,730 watts), increasing the effective height of the antenna above average terrain from 136 to 186.2 metres, and updating the existing coordinates of the transmitter site. The Commission did not receive any interventions regarding this application.
- The CBC stated that the changes will permit it to combine its ICI Radio-Canada Première, Radio One and ICI Musique services on a single antenna to optimize operating costs while ensuring quality service for Yarmouth and the surrounding area.
- Pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
- The licensee must implement the technical changes by no later than 8 July 2021. To request an extension, the licensee must submit a written request to the Commission at least 60 days before that date, using the form available on the Commission’s website.
