Various Indigenous radio programming undertakings – Administrative renewals of licences expiring 31 August 2019, 2020 and 2021
- As part of its Departmental Plan 2018-2019, the Commission announced that it would review its Indigenous radio policy framework to reflect the realities of broadcasting services for Indigenous peoples in Canada.
- In light of the above and given that this review will likely result in changes to the current policy for Indigenous radio stations, the Commission is of the view that the broadcasting licences held by Indigenous radio broadcasting undertakings that will expire on 31 August 2019, 2020 and 2021 should be administratively renewed in order to allow for an assessment of all these stations under the revised framework.
- Accordingly, the Commission renews the broadcasting licences for the Indigenous radio programming undertakings set out in the appendix to this decision until 31 August 2022, subject to the terms and conditions in effect under the current licences.
- This decision does not dispose of any issue that may arise with respect to the renewal of these licences. The Commission will consider the renewal of these licences at a later date, and interested persons will have an opportunity to comment at the appropriate time.
