Re:  Report regarding the retail sales practices of Canada’s large telecommunications carriers, Telecom and Broadcasting Notice of Consultation CRTC 2018-246 – Request for extension to file costs applications

Dear Mr. Richman,

By letter dated 20 December 2018, the Deafness Advocacy Association of Nova Scotia (DAANS) requested an extension to the timeline set out in section 65 of the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission Rules of Practice and Procedure relating to the filing of applications for final costs. Specifically, DAANS requested a further extension of the deadline to 7 January 2019.

By letter dated 7 December 2018, a number of consumer groups, including DAANS, requested an extension of the deadline to file costs applications to 21 December 2018. Commission staff granted this request on 11 December 2018.

In the current request for a further extension to the deadline, DAANS noted that it has only one paid employee who will be filing the costs application in this proceeding, Mr. Richman. Due to a family medical emergency, Mr. Richman, on behalf of DAANS, will be unable to meet this deadline. DAANS noted that it requested 7 January 2019 to ensure two personnel from the Deaf Wireless Canada Consultative Committee would be available to assist with the filing of its first costs application.

Having regard for the above, we are of the view that the request is reasonable. Therefore, DAANS’ costs application deadline is extended to 7 January 2019.

A copy of this letter and all related correspondence will be added to the public record of the proceeding.
