CBQT-FM Thunder Bay and its transmitter CBLG-FM Geraldton – Technical changes
- The Commission approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) to change the authorized contours of CBLG-FM Geraldton, a rebroadcasting transmitter of the English-language radio programming undertaking CBQT-FM Thunder Bay, Ontario (Radio One), by changing the antenna’s radiation pattern from non directional to directional, changing the class from B1 to B, increasing the maximum effective radiated power (ERP) from 5,950 to 25,123 watts, decreasing the average ERP from 5,950 to 3,492 watts and increasing the effective height of the antenna above average terrain from 133.1 to 157.1 metres. The Commission did not receive any interventions regarding this application.
- The CBC indicated that CBLG-FM Geraldton will be co-located with CBON-FM-22 Geraldton, a rebroadcasting transmitter for the French-language station CBON-FM Sudbury, belonging to the ICI Radio-Canada Première network (IRCP). It stated that these technical changes will allow the IRCP and Radio One services to be combined on a single antenna, maintaining excellent coverage in Geraldton and surrounding areas.
- Pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
- The licensee must implement the technical changes by no later than 8 February 2020. To request an extension, the licensee must submit a written request to the Commission at least 60 days before that date, using the form available on the Commission’s website.
