CBI Sydney and and its transmitter CBIS-FM Sydney – Technical changes

  1. The Commission approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to change the authorized contours of CBIS-FM Sydney, Nova Scotia, a rebroadcasting transmitter of the English-language AM radio programming undertaking CBI Sydney (Radio One), by changing the antenna pattern from directional to non-directional, decreasing the maximum effective radiated power (ERP) from 10,650 to 8,170 watts, increasing the average ERP from 6,540 to 8,170 watts, increasing the effective height of the antenna above average terrain from 122.8 to 125.6 metres, and correcting the existing coordinates of the transmitter site. The Commission did not receive any interventions in regard to this application.
  2. The licensee stated that the technical changes will allow for the replacement of a time-worn transmitter and the combination of its Radio One, Radio 2 and ICI Radio-Canada Première services in a single antenna, which will optimize operating costs while maintaining excellent coverage for Sydney and surrounding areas.
  3. Pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
  4. The licensee must implement the technical changes by no later than 8 May 2020. To request an extension, the licensee must submit a written request to the Commission at least 60 days before that date, using the form available on the Commission’s website.
