CBU-FM Vancouver and its transmitter CBU-FM-5 Prince George; CBUF-FM Vancouver and its transmitter CBUF-FM-4 Prince George – Technical changes

  1. The Commission approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to change the authorized contours of CBU-FM-5 Prince George, British Columbia, a rebroadcasting transmitter of the English-language radio programming undertaking CBU-FM Vancouver (Radio One) by changing the antenna radiation pattern from directional to non-directional, increasing the average effective radiated power (ERP) from 151 to 602 watts (maximum ERP from 321 to 602 watts), decreasing the effective height of the antenna above average terrain (EHAAT) from 78 to 64.6 metres and correcting the coordinates for the location of the tower.
  2. The Commission also approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to change the authorized contours of CBUF-FM-4 Prince George, a rebroadcasting transmitter of the French-language radio programming undertaking CBUF-FM Vancouver (ICI Radio-Canada Première) by increasing the ERP from 130 to 616 watts, increasing the EHAAT from 61 to 64.6 metres and correcting the coordinates for the location of the tower.
  3. The licensee stated that it will combine the two services in a single antenna. It added that these changes will allow the services to maintain excellent coverage in Prince George and vicinity.
  4. The Commission did not receive any interventions regarding these applications.
  5. Pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, these authorities will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that broadcasting certificates will be issued.
  6. The licensee must implement the technical changes by no later than 20 April 2020. To request an extension, the licensee must submit a written request to the Commission at least 60 days before that date, using the form available on the Commission’s website.
