CBLA-FM Toronto and its transmitter CBCB-FM Owen Sound –Technical changes
- The Commission approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) to change the authorized contours of CBCB-FM Owen Sound, Ontario, a rebroadcasting transmitter of the English-language radio programming undertaking CBLA-FM Toronto, Ontario (Radio One), by changing the antenna’s radiation pattern from non-directional to directional, decreasing the average effective radiated power from 100,000 to 39,174 watts and decreasing the effective height of the antenna above average terrain from 212 to 210.6 metres. The Commission did not receive any interventions regarding this application.
- The station’s antenna will be co-located with that of CBL-FM-4 Owen Sound, a rebroadcasting transmitter of CBL-FM Toronto (Radio 2). The CBC stated that this change will help maintain excellent coverage in Owen Sound and surrounding areas.
- Pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
- The transmitter must be operational with implemented technical changes at the earliest possible date and in any event no later than 24 months from the date of this decision, unless a request for an extension of time is approved by the Commission before 22 November 2019. In order to ensure that such a request is processed in a timely manner, it should be submitted in writing at least 60 days before that date.
