CBAF-FM-5 Halifax and its transmitter CBAF-FM-7 Digby –Technical changes
- The Commission approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) to change the authorized contours of CBAF-FM-7 Digby, Nova Scotia, a rebroadcasting transmitter of the French-language radio programming undertaking CBAF-FM-5 Halifax, Nova Scotia. Specifically, the effective radiated power decreased from 980 to 450 watts and the effective height of the antenna above average terrain increased from 148 to 256.6 meters. All other technical parameters will remain unchanged. The Commission did not receive any interventions regarding this application.
- The CBC indicated that the current antenna was at the end of its lifecycle and that a new antenna would ensure quality service to Digby and surrounding areas.
- Pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
- The transmitter must be operational with implemented technical changes at the earliest possible date and in any event no later than 24 months from the date of this decision, unless a request for an extension of time is approved by the Commission before 22 November 2019. In order to ensure that such a request is processed in a timely manner, it should be submitted in writing at least 60 days before that date.
