Application 2017-0056-8
CHGA-FM Maniwaki – Technical changes
- The Commission approves the application by Radio communautaire F.M. de la Haute-Gatineau inc. to amend the authorized contours for the French-language community radio programming undertaking CHGA-FM Maniwaki, Quebec, by increasing its average effective radiated power (ERP) from 2,877 to 11,900 watts (maximum ERP increasing from 2,877 to 16,900 watts), by changing the antenna’s radiation pattern from non-directional to directional and by decreasing the effective height of antenna above average terrain from 214 to 205 metres. The Commission received one intervention in support of this application.
- The licensee indicated that a replacement of the transmission tower is necessary since it has been in service for more than 30 years. It also wishes to solve a signal reception problem on the outskirts of the coverage area, following listeners’ complaints alleging deficiencies in the station’s signal.
- Pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
- The transmitter must be operational with implemented technical changes at the earliest possible date and in any event no later than 24 months from the date of this decision, unless a request for an extension of time is approved by the Commission before 19 July 2019. In order to ensure that such a request is processed in a timely manner, it should be submitted in writing at least 60 days before that date.
