CKKX-FM Peace River – Technical changes
- The Commission approves the application by Peace River Broadcasting Corporation Ltd. (Peace River Broadcasting) to change the authorized contours of the English-language commercial radio programming undertaking CKKX-FM Peace River, Alberta, by relocating its transmitter, changing the antenna’s radiation pattern from non-directional to directional, increasing the average effective radiated power (ERP) from 2,500 to 30,128 watts (maximum ERP from 2,500 to 50,000 watts), changing the transmitter’s class from A to C1 and increasing the effective height of antenna above average terrain from 155.2 to 219.9 metres.Footnote 1 The Commission did not receive any interventions regarding this application.
- Peace River Broadcasting indicated that these technical changes were necessary to improve signal strength and address reception issues with its primary FM transmitter and that the new contours would not extend signal coverage to markets not already served by the station.
- Pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
- The transmitter must be operational at the earliest possible date and in any event no later than 24 months from the date of this decision, unless a request for an extension of time is approved by the Commission before 20 June 2019. In order to ensure that such a request is processed in a timely manner, it should be submitted in writing at least 60 days before that date.
