Re: Application by Public Interest Advocacy Centre (PIAC) regarding section 12 of An Act respecting mainly the implementation of certain provisions of the Budget Speech of 26 March 2015, L.Q. 2016, ch.7 (Bill 74)—Suspension of deadlines
By application dated 8 July 2016, PIAC requested certain declaratory and other relief with respect to section 12 of Bill 74, relying on arguments that challenged the constitutionality of section 12.
On 27 July 2016, the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) filed an application with the Superior Court of Quebec challenging section 12 of Bill 74 on constitutional grounds.
On 29 July 2016, the Attorney General of Quebec filed a procedural request with the Commission, seeking an extension of time to file an intervention to PIAC’s application; PIAC responded to that request on 3 August 2016.
Commission staff hereby provides notice that all deadlines associated with PIAC’s application are suspended. Interested persons are requested not to file any further comments at this time, including comments on PIAC’s application and on the Attorney General of Quebec’s procedural request.
Further procedural direction regarding PIAC’s application will be provided by the Commission in the near future.
