Dear Mr. Law,
Re: Request for information and disclosure – Broadcasting Notice of Consultation CRTC 2016-225
The Commission is in receipt of a letter submitted by Unifor on 24 June 2016, relating to Broadcasting Notice of Consultation CRTC 2016-225, Renewal of television licences held by large English- and French-language ownership groups (BNC 2016-225).
In this letter, Unifor argued that the Commission should supplement the questions posed in its 15 June 2016 letter by requiring the applicants to disclose how they intend to meet expectations of “local presence” identified at paragraph 61 of the Broadcasting Regulatory Policy CRTC 2016-224, Policy framework for local and community television. In addition, Unifor requested that the Commission require Rogers to provide more detail in regard to the manner in which it intends to staff and operate OMNI news bureaus in support of its application 2016-377.
With the publication of BNC 2016-225 the Commission invited interested parties to submit their comments on the renewal applications received. As such, Unifor may file an intervention in the public process initiated by BNC 2016-225 in which it would include the above-mentioned requests. By doing so, you would allow the applicants to have a chance to directly reply to your proposals.
Sincerely,
Scott Hutton
Executive Director, Broadcasting
