CBON-FM Sudbury and its transmitter CBON-FM-22 Geraldton – Technical changes
- The Commission approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to change the authorized contours of the rebroadcasting transmitter CBON-FM-22 Geraldton, Ontario, for the radio programming undertaking CBON-FM Sudbury. The transmitter class will change from B to A, and the average effective radiated power will decrease from 6,400 to 2,500 watts (effective height of antenna above average terrain decreasing from 152.5 to 151.1 metres). The licensee also wishes to apply corrections to the transmitter site’s coordinates. The Commission did not receive any interventions regarding this application.
- The licensee stated that it wanted to replace its existing transmitter in Geraldton, which is now obsolete.
- Pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
- The transmitter must be operational with implemented technical changes at the earliest possible date and in any event no later than 24 months from the date of this decision, unless a request for an extension of time is approved by the Commission before 10 November 2018. In order to ensure that such a request is processed in a timely manner, it should be submitted in writing at least 60 days before that date.
