CBFX-FM Montréal and its transmitter CBFX-FM-4 Rouyn-Noranda – Technical changes
- The Commission approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) to change the authorized contours of CBFX-FM-4 Rouyn-Noranda, a rebroadcasting transmitter of its radio programming undertaking CBFX-FM Montréal, Quebec, by relocating the transmitter, changing from a directional to a non-directional antenna, and decreasing the average effective radiated power (ERP) from 17,200 to 10,912 watts (maximum ERP decreasing from 26,700 to 10,912 watts) and the effective height of antenna above average terrain from 204.2 to 110.2 metres. The Commission did not receive any interventions regarding this application.
- The CBC stated that these changes will allow it to combine its FM services in Rouyn-Noranda and thus reduce its costs.
- Pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
- The transmitter must be operational with implemented technical changes at the earliest possible date and in any event no later than 24 months from the date of this decision, unless a request for an extension of time is approved by the Commission before 30 September 2018. In order to ensure that such a request is processed in a timely manner, it should be submitted in writing at least 60 days before that date.
