RE: Tariff Notice 4381 – Radiotelephone Services
Dear Sir:
On 7 August 2015, the Commission received an application by TELUS Communications Company (TCC), under Tariff Notice 4381 (TN 4381), in which the company proposed to withdraw General Tariff items related to Radiotelephone Services.
Paragraph 28(1)(a) of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission Rules of Practice and Procedure provides that the Commission may request parties to file information or documents where needed.
TCC is requested to provide comprehensive answers, including rationale and any supporting information, to the attached questions by 4 September 2015.
Sincerely,
Original signed by Robert Martin for

Request for information
TCC proposed to withdraw the Radiotelephone services covered by item 236 – VHF Mobile Stations and item 261 – Remote Radiotelephone Service. It also proposed to withdraw the local message rate tables in Item 256 and the radio exchange rates in item 32 because they would not be needed once items 236 and 261 were withdrawn.
In addition, TCC noted that item 244 – Public Radiotelephone Stations and item 252 – Radio Toll Station Service (Business) have no remaining customers and proposed to withdraw them. The company submitted that item 244 covers mobile exchange pay stations used on passenger ships and would have been displaced by the withdrawal of Marine Radiotelephone Service and cellular coverage expansion. It also submitted that business customers of item 252 had been migrated to Exchange Area Radiotelephone Service (EARS), which was subsequently withdrawn.
Further, TCC proposed to withdraw item 254 – Radio Toll Station Service (Residential), the residential counterpart of item 252 described above. Commission staff notes, however, that TCC has not provided rationale for its proposal to withdraw item 254.
- Provide rationale for the proposal to withdraw item 254.
- Identify how many customers, if any, currently subscribe to this service.
- If there are currently customers for this service,
- Confirm whether they been notified of this proposed service withdrawal.
- Identify any substitute services, if available.
- Provide a copy of the letter of notification that was sent to those customers.
