Application 2015-1158-5

CKUA-FM Edmonton and its transmitter CKUA-FM-13 Drumheller – Technical changes

  1. The Commission approves the application by CKUA Radio Foundation (CKUA Radio) to change the authorized contours of CKUA-FM-13 Drumheller, Alberta, a transmitter of the English-language specialty commercial radio programming undertaking CKUA-FM Edmonton, Alberta, by decreasing the effective radiated power from 100,000 to 22,000 watts and by increasing the effective height of antenna above average terrain from 299 to 300.3 metres. All other technical parameters will remain unchanged. The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with this application.
  2. CKUA Radio stated that the changes are necessary since they, coupled with a conversion to a solid state transmitter, will reduce CKUA-FM-13’s operating costs significantly and will maintain optimal signal coverage for the majority of the Drumheller listening audience.
  3. The Commission reminds the licensee that, pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
