Re Request to appear at the hearing that was announced in Broadcasting Notice of Consultation CRTC 2014-26 regarding Rogers Media Inc.’s various licence renewals

Mr. Contarin:

This letter is in response to a procedural request that you submitted to the Commission on behalf of Unifor Local 723M on 24 March 2014. In your e-mail message, you request that the Commission reconsider its decision not to invite Unifor Local 723M to appear at the hearing that was announced in Broadcasting Notice of Consultation CRTC 2014-26. You also indicate that Unifor Local 723M is a stakeholder in the present proceeding and that the membership you represent has been through a difficult time in the past few years and for these reasons, you request to be included as an appearing party at the upcoming hearing.

The Commission has decided to maintain its decision not to invite Unifor Local 723M to appear at the hearing. The Commission is aware that Unifor Local 723M wishes to bring specific issues to the Commission’s attention in the oral phase of this proceeding, however, the Commission notes that your position on these issues is already clearly set out in your written submission. In addition, since Unifor has been invited to appear at the hearing, you may wish to take the opportunity to raise your specific concerns through their presentation.

The Commission wishes to assure you that Unifor Local 723M’s written intervention forms part of the public record of this proceeding and will be considered by the Commission in making its determination.
