Dryden Municipal Telephone System – Withdrawal of Emergency-Reporting and Alerting Systems service
File number: DMTS Tariff Notice 55
1. The Commission received an application from Dryden Municipal Telephone System (DMTS), dated 14 January 2014, in which the company proposed revisions to its General Tariff to withdraw section 390 – Emergency-Reporting and Alerting Systems. DMTS indicated that this service has been available to municipalities and other organizations in order to transmit reports of fires or other emergencies via telephone.
2. DMTS submitted that no customers have subscribed to this service for over a year and that customers for this type of service are now using different systems, such as paging, for alerting purposes. Therefore, it did not anticipate any demand for the service in the foreseeable future. In response to a request for information, DMTS indicated that, following customer consultations, it had concluded that the service would not be required in the future.
3. In Telecom Order 2014-68, the Commission approved DMTS’s application on an interim basis.
4. The Commission received no interventions regarding this application. The public record of this proceeding, which closed on 25 February 2014, is available on the Commission’s website at www.crtc.gc.ca under “Public Proceedings” or by using the file number provided above.
5. The Commission considers that DMTS has met the requirements for service withdrawal set out in Telecom Decision 2008-22, in which the Commission revised its procedures for applications dealing with the destandardization and/or withdrawal of tariffed services.
6. Accordingly, the Commission approves on a final basis DMTS’s application.
