Community radio stations - Licence renewals
- The Commission renews the broadcasting licences for the communityradio programming undertakings listed in the appendix to this decision from 1 September 2014 to 31 August 2021. The licensees listed in this appendix shall adhere to the conditions of licence set out in Broadcasting Regulatory Policy 2012‑304, as amended from time to time, as well as the terms and conditions of licence set out in the appendix, where applicable.
- The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with these applications.
- The Commission notes that Association des francophones du Nunavut (AFN) was found in non-compliance for CFRT-FM Iqaluit with respect to sections 9(2) and 9(4) of the Radio Regulations, 1986 (the Regulations) during the previous licence term that ended 30 November 2012. The Commission has found AFN, and the other licensees addressed in this decision, in compliance with the Regulations during the current licence term. The Commission therefore considers it appropriate to renew the licences for a full seven-year term.
Reminder
- Pursuant to section 22 of the Broadcasting Act, the broadcasting licences renewed in this decision will cease to have any force or effect if the broadcasting certificates issued by the Department of Industry lapse.
Filing of ownership information
- As set out in Broadcasting Regulatory Policy 2010-499, as amended from time to time, the Commission expects all community and campus licensees to file yearly updates on the composition of their boards of directors. These annual updates can be submitted at the time of submission of annual returns, following annual board of directors’ elections or at any other time. As noted in Appendix 3 to that policy, licensees may submit such documentation via the Commission’s website.
Employment equity
- The Commission considers that campus and community radio stations should be particularly sensitive to employment equity issues in order to reflect fully the communities they serve. It encourages the licensees to consider these issues in their hiring practices and in all other aspects of their management of human resources.
