Application 2013-1335-3

CKKX-FM Peace River – Technical change

1. The Commission approves the application by Peace River Broadcasting Corporation Ltd. to change the authorized contours of the English-language commercial radio programming undertaking CKKX-FM Peace River, Alberta, by changing the antenna radiation pattern from directional to non-directional, by increasing the average effective radiated power (ERP) from 989 to 2,500 watts and decreasing the maximum ERP from 2,993 to 2,500 watts, by increasing the effective height of antenna above average terrain from 78 to 155.2 metres and by changing the antenna’s location on the tower to reflect a correction of the existing coordinates. The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with this application.

2. The licensee stated that because of the tower design, in order to work around an obstruction, the antenna array was mounted higher on the tower on a leg facing away from the primary market. Since the antenna array may not be installed at a lower elevation on the tower, the licensee proposed to install it higher.

3. The Commission reminds the licensee that, pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
