RE: Competitor Tariff application to modify the terms and conditions pertaining to Busy Line Verification Service

Dear Sir:

On 30 July 2013, Saskatchewan Telecommunications (SaskTel) submitted an application (Tariff Notice 284) to modify the terms and conditions pertaining to Busy Line Verification Service such that the company would furnish the service only where and to the extent that appropriate facilities to do so exist.

Paragraph 28(1)(a) of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission Rules of Practice and Procedure provides that the Commission may request parties to file information or documents where needed.

The company is requested to provide a complete response, with supporting rationale, to the attached questions by 9 August 2013.

Where a document is to be filed or served by a specific date, the document must be actually received, not merely sent, by that date. Copies of the documents should also be sent to cameron.warriner@crtc.gc.ca.

Yours sincerely,

Questions

1) The Service Description of SaskTel’s proposed Tariff indicates that an operator will not interrupt a conversation in progress, however, in the wording SaskTel proposed to add, the company refers to “Verification and interruption services...” [underline added]. Rationalize the inconsistency between the two statements.

2) Approval processes for tariff applications and intercarrier agreements, Telecom Information Bulletin CRTC 2010-455, 5 July 2010 requires that Competitor tariff applications provide a full explanation of the reasons for the changes for which approval is sought. Provide the company’s rationale for why it is seeking to introduce the proposed wording.
