File No.: 8678-S22-201206756 - Application for Use of Deferral Account funds to improve access to telecommunications services for persons with disabilities

Dear Mr. Hersche:

In its letter to SaskTel dated 15 November 2012, the Commission approved SaskTel deferral account initiatives to improve the accessibility of its web-based email service and to upgrade in-building wire in Saskatchewan Housing Corporation multi-dwelling units designated for persons with disabilities. The Commission also approved SaskTel’s proposal to transfer funds to the Regina and District Association of Community Living (RACL) to be used for the provision of telecommunications technology and training to persons with intellectual or developmental disabilities, subject to amendments of its Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or funding mechanism or both. The Commission directed SaskTel to file its amended documentation no later than 17 December 2012.

On 14 December 2012, SaskTel filed with the Commission an amended MOU for approval by the Commission. The Commission has reviewed SaskTel’s revised MOU and is satisfied that the amendments address the requirements set out in Commission’s letter.

Accordingly, the Commission approves SaskTel’s amendments to its MOU for its RACL initiative.

Sincerely,
