Removal of The Satellite Channel of Southern Television Guangdong from the List of non-Canadian programming services authorized for distribution
1. In Addition of nine non-Canadian Chinese-language services to the lists of eligible satellite services for distribution on a digital basis, Broadcasting Public Notice CRTC 2006-166, 22 December 2006, the Commission added The Satellite Channel of Southern Television Guangdong, a non-Canadian general interest Cantonese-language programming service consisting of programming that includes lifestyle, fashion, entertainment and drama, as well as news and information, to the List of non-Canadian programming services authorized for distribution (the list).[1]
2. In a letter dated 3 August 2013, Southern Television Guangdong, the operator of The Satellite Channel of Southern Television Guangdong, indicated that it had entered into a partnership with Canadian Chinese Media Network (also known as WOWtv) to provide programming for a Canadian Category B service named TVS and accordingly requested removal of The Satellite Channel of Southern Television Guangdong from the list.
3. Consequently, the Commission removes The Satellite Channel of Southern Television Guangdong from the list. The revised list is available on the Commission’s website at www.crtc.gc.ca under “Broadcasting Sector.”
4. The Commission notes that TVS has been added to the List of Exempt Category B and Exempt Third-Language Services, which is also available on the Commission’s website at www.crtc.gc.ca under “Broadcasting Sector.”
