Re: Applications for licence amendments and licence renewal of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation

Dear Mr. Lévesque:

This is in response to your letter dated 16 April 2012, on behalf of the Syndicat des Communications de Radio-Canada-FNC-CSN, regarding the licence renewal applications for the services of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), in addition to the CBC’s licence amendment applications filed with the Commission.

Today, the Commission is publishing application 2012-0509-7, under Part 1 of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission Rules of Practice and Procedure.  In this application, the CBC requests the revocation of the broadcasting licences of two conventional television stations and amendments to remove the analog transmitters from the broadcasting licences of 23 other conventional television stations. Your letter has been added to the public file of this process.

The Commission is also publishing today a procedural letter. It announces that the Commission will consider the CBC’s applications to amend the broadcasting licences of Espace Musique and Radio 2 (and their affiliate stations), in order to permit national advertising, within the context of a public hearing that will examine the renewal of all CBC’s licences. The letter announces that this hearing will take place starting 19 November 2012. Your letter of 16 April 2012 has been added to the public files of applications 2011-0286-3 and 2011-0288-9 for the renewal of Espace Musique and Radio 2 licences, respectively.

Regarding your other comments about the local conventional television stations, as well as RDI and CBC News Network, please note that your letter has been added to the public files of applications 2011-0276-4, 2011-0277-2 and 2011-0281-3.

In addition, please note that the Commission will issue in the following months a notice of consultation calling for new comments from the public regarding the licence renewal applications of the CBC’s services. The Syndicat des Communications de Radio-Canada-FNC-CSN will then have an opportunity to file new comments.

Sincerely,
