Application 2012-0515-4
CKQV-FM Vermillion Bay and its transmitter CKQV-FM-1 Dryden –Technical change
1. The Commission approves the application by Golden West Broadcasting Limited (Golden West) to amend the broadcasting licence for the English-language commercial radio programming undertaking CKQV-FM Vermillion Bay in order to change the frequency of its transmitter CKQV-FM-1 Dryden from 104.5 MHz (channel 283A) to 104.3 MHz (channel 282A). All other technical parameters will remain unchanged.
2. Golden West stated that the frequency change is necessary to remedy interference caused by CKQV-FM-1 to the signal of CKQV-FM-2 Kenora and CKQV-FM-3 Sioux Lookout.
3. The Commission received an intervention opposing the application from Acadia Broadcasting Limited. However, the intervention does not deal with technical matters but rather with the location of CKQV-FM’s studio. The Commission is dealing with the intervention as a formal complaint in a separate proceeding.
4. The Commission reminds the licensee that, pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
