Re: Request from Northwestel Inc. for clarification with respect to the scope of the network interconnection proceeding - Telecom Notice of Consultation 2011-206
The Commission is in receipt of a letter dated 22 June 2011 from Northwestel Inc. (Northwestel) regarding the scope of the network interconnection proceeding. In its letter, Northwestel requested that the Commission confirm that matters related to the implementation of facilities-based local competition, including local network interconnection, in its operating territory are outside the scope of the network interconnection proceeding.
Commission staff notes that a proceeding to review the regulatory framework for Northwestel is currently underway, and that matters related to the introduction of facilities-based local competition in Northwestel’s operating territory are within the scope of that proceeding.
Consequently, Commission staff confirms that matters related to the introduction of facilities-based competition in Northwestel’s operating territory, including any associated local network interconnection arrangements, are outside the scope of the network interconnection proceeding.
