Dear Mr. McSherry:

Re: 2011-1157-5: Application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to amend the licence of the French-language television programming undertaking CJBR-TV Rimouski, Québec.

This letter is in reference to your intervention dated 5 August 2011 related to the above noted application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (the Corporation) wherein you raised concerns about the shortened intervention period.

In light of the national consumer education campaign related to the digital transition, Commission staff is of the view that it is in the public interest to ensure that the Corporation is able to convert its transmitter CJBR-TV Rimouski by 31 August 2011 in order to mitigate against consumer confusion. Without a shortened intervention period, it would not be possible for the Commission to render a decision on the application nor would it be possible for the Corporation to abide by the decision, by 31 August 2011.

As a result of the above, the intervention and reply periods for the Corporation’s application related to its transmitter in Rimouski, Québec will not be extended at this time.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely,
