Streamlining Data Collection – Licence Fee Return Process

1.      Beginning in the fall of 2011, the Commission will be streamlining its data collection process associated with the Licence Fee Return (LFR) forms. Specifically, it will be converting its paper-based process to an electronic system that will provide broadcasting stakeholders with a secure and single point of electronic data filing with the Commission. As a result, the paper-based LFR forms will no longer be mailed out to broadcasting licensees. LFR data will instead be collected using the Commission’s web-based Data Collection System (DCS), as part of the broadcasting annual returns. The LFR forms will be available on-line in the DCS as of 17 October 2011.

2.      Sections 5 and 6 of the Broadcasting Licence Fee Regulations, 1997 require LFR data to be filed annually with the Commission on or before 30 November of each year. Revenue data collected in the LFR forms is used by the Commission to calculate Part I and Part II broadcasting licence fees.

3.      For more information regarding this new electronic data collection initiative, please contact the Commission’s Finance division at
