Re: Follow-up to Use of deferral accounts to improve access to telecommunications services for persons with disabilities and to expand broadband services to rural and remote communities, Telecom Decision CRTC 2008-1 (Telecom Decision 2008-1) – Request for extension to provide response to interrogatory
The Commission is in receipt of correspondence from Bell Aliant Regional Communications, Limited Partnership and Bell Canada (collectively, the Bell Companies) dated 25 May 2010, requesting an extension for the filing of their response to the interrogatory forwarded to them by the Commission in a letter dated 17 May 2010. The Bell companies are requesting a two week extension, until 8 June 2010, since resources involved in the preparation and review of the response are engaged in preparing for the upcoming oral hearing associated with the proceeding initiated by Telecom Notice of Consultation CRTC 2009‑261, Proceeding to consider the appropriateness of mandating certain wholesale high-speed access services.
Commission staff notes a similar interrogatory was forwarded to both MTS Allstream Inc. (MTS Allstream), and TELUS Communications Company (TCC), and that both of these companies have provided their response by the date requested, 25 May 2010. Commission staff also notes that both these companies are also involved in preparing for the upcoming oral hearing associated with the proceeding initiated by Telecom Notice of Consultation CRTC 2009‑261.
Commission staff considers under the circumstances that a one week extension is more acceptable.
Should any party wish to file additional comments with respect to the response of the Bell companies, they may do so by 8 June 2010. Further, the Bell companies, MTS Allstream and TCC may file reply comments with respect to these additional comments by 15 June 2010.
Submissions and comments are to be filed with the Commission, serving copies on all other parties to the proceeding, including parties listed in the attached distribution list. Submissions must be received, not merely sent, by the dates noted above.
