RE: Tariff Notice 232 – Directory Assistance Services

Dear Mr. Hersche:

The Commission received an application by Saskatchewan Telecommunications (SaskTel) on 25 February 2010, under cover of Tariff Notice 232, in which the company proposed to withdraw from its General Tariff, Items 160.20 Directory Assistance Charge and 160.30 Directory Assistance Call Completion.

In its application, the company proposed to remove the entire tariff including the references to the current exemptions from charges related to Directory Assistance and Call Completion. In Telecom Regulatory Policy 2009-243, the Commission granted forbearance to Directory Assistance and Call Completion services, with the condition that the ILECs maintain the current exemptions from these charges.

In a telephone conversation on 3 March 2010, Commission staff notified the company that the exemptions from charging for these services should be maintained in the current tariff or established elsewhere in another tariff. The Commission is currently awaiting a further tariff application from the company, specifying its intent in this matter.

Consequently, this application will not be approved on an interim basis on the 15th calendar day following its receipt. The Commission, however, intends to dispose of this tariff application, along with any subsequent applications issued to re-establish those charging exceptions, within 45 days of the last amendment or application filed.

Yours sincerely,
