RE: Tariff Notice 229 – Direct Customer Access

Dear Mr. Hersche:

On 19 January 2010, the Commission received an application by Saskatchewan Telecommunications (SaskTel), under cover of Tariff Notice (TN) 229, in which the company proposed a modification to its General Tariff Item 110.16, Direct Customer Access to, among other things, remove the service element, Customer Look Ups: Name and address or Telephone number. SaskTel noted that its application was a group B filing and attached a copy of its letter informing existing customers of its proposal to remove the service element.

Commission staff notes that TN 229 proposes the withdrawal of a service and therefore does not meet the definition of a Group B filing. In addition, pursuant to Mandatory customer contract renewal notification and requirements for service destandardization/withdrawal, Telecom Decision 2008-22, 6 March 2008, interested parties may file comments on a withdrawal proposal within 30 business days of the date of the application.

Accordingly, the Commission will be unable to dispose of this application within 45 business days. The Commission expects to issue a decision on this application by the end of April 2010.

Yours sincerely,
