Application 2009-1442-5, received 27 October 2009
New FM radio station in Ottawa – Technical change
1. | The Commission approves the application by Astral Media Radio Inc. to change the authorized contours of the new FM radio programming undertaking authorized in Broadcasting Decision 2008-222 and confirmed in Broadcasting Decision 2009-481, by decreasing the average effective radiated power from 45,000 watts to 38,000 watts and by increasing the effective height of the antenna above average terrain from 123.5 metres to 161 metres. The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with this application. |
2. | The applicant indicated that it will use an existing facility and combine its signal with that of CHRI-FM Ottawa by using the same antenna. The applicant stated that the change will result in increased efficiencies and cost savings. |
3. | The Department of Industry (the Department) has advised the Commission that, while this application is conditionally technically acceptable, it will only issue a broadcasting certificate when it has determined that the proposed technical parameters will not create any unacceptable interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services. |
4. | The Commission reminds the licensee that, pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued. |
