CFVR-FM Fort McMurray – Technical change |

| 1. | The Commission approves the application by Harvard Broadcasting Inc. to change the authorized contours of the radio programming undertaking CFVR-FM Fort McMurray, Alberta by increasing the effective radiated power from 20 kilowatts to 50 kilowatts. All other technical parameters will remain unchanged. There were interventions in support of this application. |
| 2. | The licensee requested this power increase following the publication of the Department of Industry’s (the Department) Gazette Notice No. SMBR-003-08 – Changes to the Domestic Protection Criteria for FM Broadcast Stations. In support of its request, the licensee submitted that the proposed changes will improve its service to the expanding community of Fort McMurray/Wood Buffalo and ensure that it remains competitive by offering the same signal reach as its competitors. |
| 3. | Based on its examination of the application, the Commission is satisfied that the Fort McMurray/Wood Buffalo radio market can accommodate the proposed technical change without undue economic or technical impact on the incumbent radio stations. |
| 4. | The Department has advised the Commission that, while this application is conditionally technically acceptable, it will only issue a broadcasting certificate when it has determined that the proposed technical parameters will not create any unacceptable interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services. |
| 5. | The Commission reminds the licensee that, pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued. |
