Application by Fairchild Radio (Vancouver FM) Ltd. to renew the licence of the commercial ethnic FM radio programming undertaking CHKG-FM expiring 31 August 2008. |

The licensee is applying to renew its licence including the following conditions of licence related to the broadcasting of ethnic programming as set out in the current licence: |
|
By condition of licence, the licensee must provide programming in each broadcast week directed to a minimum of 20 cultural groups in a minimum of 15 different languages; and
|
|
The licensee is authorized, by condition of licence, to use a subsidiary communications multiplex operations (SCMO) channel for the purpose of broadcasting a predominantly Korean-language radio service.
|
|
As well, the licensee proposes to delete the following condition of licence: |
|
The licensee must not broadcast any ethnic programming directed to the Chinese community during the 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. period on weekdays;
|
|
And replace it with the following condition of licence: |
|
The licensee must not broadcast any ethnic programming directed to the Chinese community in the Cantonese dialect during the period 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. period on weekdays.
|
|
The Commission notes that the licensee intends to broadcast programming in the Mandarin dialect during this time period. |
