  Further to Broadcasting Notice of Public Hearing CRTC 2008-8 and Telecom Public Notice CRTC 2008-8 related to a public hearing that will be held beginning on 17 November 2008 at the Conference Centre, Phase IV, 140 Promenade du Portage, Gatineau, Quebec, the Commission announces that it is amending the filing procedures in the following matter:

At paragraph 31 of Unresolved issues related to the accessibility of telecommunications and broadcasting services to persons with disabilities, Broadcasting Notice of Public Hearing CRTC 2008-8 and Telecom Public Notice CRTC 2008-8, 10 June 2008, the Commission set out the following filing procedures:
 

Due to the nature of this proceeding, it is very important that, where possible, submissions be filed electronically in HTML format to allow them to be read by screen-readers. Text documents submitted using "Microsoft Word" and spreadsheet documents submitted using "Microsoft Excel" are also acceptable. However, electronic comments should not be submitted in PDF format. (emphasis added)

To date, many of the documents filed in this proceeding have been submitted in PDF format, which may make these documents inaccessible to those using a screen-reader. In addition, the Commission notes that it has received a request by a party to have documents provided in text format.

In light of the above, the Commission amends the filing procedures as follows:
 
  • parties who have already submitted documentation in an electronic format in this proceeding using only a PDF format are to resubmit their documents in HTML, "Microsoft Word", or "Microsoft Excel" formats by 28 July 2008;
 
  • all parties are requested to resubmit their documents in text format by 28 July 2008, where possible; and
 
  • all parties are requested to submit all future documents in either HTML, "Microsoft Word", or "Microsoft Excel" formats. Parties are also requested to submit an additional copy of all future documents in text-only format where possible. A text-only document would include a description of a chart where a chart otherwise appears in the submission or document.
