LetterOttawa, 8 September 2008 File No.: 8698-C12-200700337 By e-mail Mr. Douglas Birdwise Re: Network Announcement for 10-Digit Dialing in 3 Switches Dear Mr. Birdwise: On 29 August 2008, Bell Canada advised Commission staff that there was a problem in three ESS switches with the announcement for mandatory 10-digit dialing for local calls. Bell Canada has advised that the message contained in the CRTC approved Relief Implementation Plans (RIPs) for area codes 418, 250 and 403/780 cannot be used in these three switches, which serve an extremely small percentage of Bell Canada customers. Bell Canada has proposed to use alternate text to the message included in the RIP. In view of the extremely limited nature of this problem, Commission staff agrees with the use of the revised messages in the three affected ESS switches, as follows: For Calgary, Edmonton and Victoria “The number you have dialed is a 10-digit local call. Please dial the area code before the number you are calling.” For Quebec City “You must dial an area code when calling the number. Please hang up and try your call again.” (French followed by English version) Sincerely, Mario Bertrand cc: Bill Mason, CRTC Date Modified: 2008-09-08 |
