LetterOttawa, 20 August 2008 File No.: 8740-S22-200511891 - 8740-S22-200810277 BY E-MAIL Mr. Robert Hersche RE: Tariff Notices Nos. 97 and 97A - Destandardization and Withdrawal of Northern Radio Telephone Service The Commission received an application by Saskatchewan Telecommunications (SaskTel) under cover of Tariff Notice 97 and 97A, dated 13 October 2005 and amended on 22 December 2005, in which the company proposed to destandardize and withdraw Northern Radio Telephone Service (NRTS) because it was being provided using obsolete and unreliable technology. The Commission received numerous comments from NRTS subscribers opposing SaskTel's application. By letters, dated 3 April 2006, 7 June 2006, and 29 December 2006, SaskTel requested the Commission defer consideration of its application because of ongoing negotiations with the affected communities. On 25 July 2008, the Commission received a new application by SaskTel under cover of Tariff Notice 182, in which the company once again proposed to withdraw NRTS. SaskTel indicated that its new proposal was substantially different from its previous proposal and, consequently, it was proposing to withdraw Tariff Notices 97 and 97A. The Commission agrees that SaskTel's proposal in Tariff Notice 182 is substantially different from what the company had proposed in Tariff Notices 97 and 97A. The Commission also notes that SaskTel's NRTS subscribers have been notified of the company's revised proposal and advised that they could file comments with the Commission, should they have any concerns. In light of the above, the Commission considers SaskTel’s request to withdraw Tariff Notices 97 and 97A to be acceptable. Sincerely, ‘Original signed by A. Rosenzveig’ (for) Robert A.
